Wordless Wednesday: Men of the Eastwind #7

Wordless Wednesday is a daily prompt at Geneabloggers that asks family historians to create a post in which the main focus is a photograph or image.

Unknown sailors on USCGC Eastwind 1946 or 47 http://jollettetc.blogspot.com

When my dad was stationed aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Eastwind in 1946-47, he took pictures of his shipmates during tours to Thule, Greenland but didn’t provide names.  Maybe the family of these sailors will find my blog and share their story.

  1. It looks pretty cold there. I hope somebody recognises the people in the photograph.

  3. Just look at how they are dressed! It's got to be pretty cold there at the moment.

  4. I love that you're posting photos of all your father's shipmates while he was in service. Is there any way -- some military source -- that you can find the names of the men who served on the Eastwind with him? You'd think there would be some military service record or something. I'm sure descendants of these men would love to see their fathers and uncles during the time they were in the service.

    1. There is an Eastwind Association with a website. I've emailed them 3 times but have gotten no response. I've also been in contact with a Coast Guard Museum in Massachusetts where the alumni of the Eastwind hold their reunions, but most of the men are from the 1960s, so it's not likely they will know sailors from 1947. I'll keep trying though.
