Wordless Wednesday: Just Them

Wordless Wednesday is a daily prompt at Geneabloggers that asks family historians to create a post in which the main focus is a photograph or image.

Unidentified men Harrisonburg, Virginia 1924 photo album of Velma Davis Woodring

In Velma Davis Woodring’s scrapbook, which she kept during her two years at Harrisonburg Teachers College 1924-26 (now James Madison University – Go Dukes), she captioned this photo “Just Them.”

Certainly would have been nice if she had given a little more information.  In 1924, there were no dorms for the men, so these fellows must have been “townies” or students at other schools.

  2. Love the attire...especially the hat. Wonder who they really were that dapper bunch :)

  3. I wonder if they were headed to (or just came from) class or if they were "dressed up" for some other reason. It seems that in earlier times people dressed up most of the time unless they were at home work at work. It's too bad you don't know names. Their descendants might have found them and contacted you to add to the story if you did. Ah, well. I suppose all of us have photographs without names. I know I do!

  4. So, does that mean this dapper group was protesting the larger party's insistence on unwieldy group pictures, and demanded a photo of "just them"? Any chance Velma has "the rest of the picture" somewhere else in her scrapbook?

  5. They look so handsome. Too bad it takes a funeral to get men to dress as nice as these guys.

At first I thought you were going to say that one of them was Woody.

    "Just them" are cute!
